As reported earlier, young footballers from Kazakhstan’s Karaganda province and adult members of their delegation have been hospitalized in Tashkent with symptoms of food poisoning, officials said. They had come to Uzbekistan for the Do’stlik Cup 2026, an international football festival.
Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health said 20 people, young footballers and their relatives, ate half-cooked eggs and sausage for breakfast at a Tashkent hotel on Nov. 1. The same day, 13 developed vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and fever. Seven more were brought to hospital on Nov. 2-3 with the same symptoms.
All 20 received a preliminary diagnosis of “acute diarrhea.” The ministry said two people have been discharged and the other 18 are in stable, satisfactory condition, with no one in intensive care.
“They are under the supervision of highly qualified doctors, and all necessary conditions have been created for their treatment,” the ministry said.
Kazakhstan’s embassy in Uzbekistan said it received word of the incident on Nov. 1. Consul Saken Perdebekov went to City Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital No. 5, and the ambassador later visited and met the parents of the affected children. The embassy said 19 people sought help and 17 remain in hospital, including 11 children and six adults.
Kazakhstan’s Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova and Uzbekistan’s First Deputy Health Minister Otabek Imomov are monitoring the situation, the embassy said.
Reports on social media said the children’s condition worsened after a hotel breakfast on Oct. 31.
