The defense ministers of Uzbekistan and Russia, Kabul Berdiyev and Sergei Shoigu on Tuesday in Moscow signed a Treaty on the development of military-technical cooperation and the Cooperation Plan between the defense ministries for 2017, a statement on the website of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation said.
The document foresees intensification of cooperation between the defense ministries of the two countries and putting it on practical track. This concerns, in particular, the joint steps to ensure the two countries’ military security, strengthen the combat potential of the armed forces and training of military personnel.
For his part, Kabul Berdyev said that Russia is the main strategic partner for Uzbekistan.
In 2017, the parties are planning to double the number of joint activities than in current year.
As part of the cooperation the program of modernization and re-equipment of Uzbekistan’s armed forces with modern Russian weapons until 2020 is being implemented.
