The new academy of fencing has been commissioned in Andijan, the Uzbekistan Olympic Committee said. The academy includes a 24×42 m exercises saloon with 8 to 10 fencing track capacity and a 50-room hotel with gym.
In September, the leadership of Uzbekistan Fencing Federation set a task to win Olympic licenses and medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
To date, there has only been one fencing school in the country that meets international standards - in Tashkent. In order to prepare for the 2020 Olympics and popularize the discipline, it was decided to build another fencing academy in Andijan.
Demographics has been taken into account when selecting Andijan to host the facility, and also a few renowned epeeists- participant of London Olympics, Ruslan Kudayev, Asian champions in team competition - Dzhavohir Nurmatov, Abdulbosit Nasriddinov, Sanjar Sobirov, and two-time silver medalist of Asian championships, Saidbek Dzheenbaev were all born in Andijan.
