The Freedom House published “Freedom in the World 2020” report, which offered a special assessment of the state of democracy in 195 countries of the world.

Of the 195 countries assessed, 83 (43 percent) were rated Free, 63 (32 percent) were Partly Free, and 49 (25 percent) were Not Free. The share of Free countries has declined by 3 percentage points over the last decade, while the percentage of Partly Free and Not Free countries rose by two and one points, respectively.

Uzbekistan, on 10 points, was recognized as Not Free. Uzbekistan scored 8 out of 60 in the civil liberties category, and only 2 out of 40 points in the political rights category.

Kazakhstan (23 points), Russia (20 points), Tajikistan (9 points) and Turkmenistan (2 points) were also ranked as Not Free.

Kyrgyzstan, on 39 points, is the freest in the Central Asian countries and is listed as Partly free.

The frees countries of the ranking are Finland, Norway and Sweden, who scored the maximum possible 100 points for observing political rights and civil liberties.
