Environmental officials have launched a formal investigation into reports circulating on social media regarding a massive explosion in Samarkand province, according to a statement released by the Provincial Department of Ecology.
The investigation revealed that the detonation did not occur in the Tepaqul neighborhood of the Nurobod district, as initially rumored online. Instead, the blast was carried out by Sam Nurafshon Group LLC—a company officially registered at 12 Gorogli Street in the city of Samarkand—within a mountainous zone located in close proximity to residential communities.
The blasting operations triggered severe backlash and formal grievances from local residents. Regulatory authorities are currently executing on-site oversight procedures to assess the situation.
Furthermore, following an official response from the Business Ombudsman, the necessary documentation has been submitted to initiate a compliant, standardized review of the corporate entity's actions. State environmental inspectors are examining these records in accordance with current statutory requirements. Officials stated that once the comprehensive review wraps up, a formal legal evaluation will be issued, and additional findings will be disclosed to the general public.
The incident follows a similar blasting operation carried out on April 15 in the Oqbuyra tourism village, located within the Samarkand district. In that instance, the Tourism Committee heavily criticized project managers, emphasizing that any controlled demolitions must be precisely scheduled and communicated to the public well in advance.
