Uzbekistan has stepped up preparedness among the relevant services to prevent highly dangerous infectious diseases from entering and spreading in the country, the Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee said.

The committee noted that reports are circulating on social media and in some other outlets about a suspected case of a highly dangerous infectious disease in Russia's Irkutsk Province.

Uzbek authorities are monitoring the situation through Russian officials and the World Health Organization's official channels. They are looking into whether the diagnosis has been confirmed in a laboratory, the likely source and route of infection, the patient's movements, and the people who came into contact with the patient.

The committee urged the public not to trust unverified reports and to follow information only through official sources.

It said further information would be released if the epidemiological situation changes.

Earlier, the Health Ministry issued recommendations on protecting children from acute respiratory viral infections and influenza.
