Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan signed $ 1.2 billion worth of deals following the two business forums in Astana in March and Tashkent on September 16 (the former accounting for $ 840 million).

Heads of ministries and departments, as well as business executives of the two countries took part in Business forum in Tashkent’s UzExpoCentre, timed to the state visit of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to Uzbekistan.

Chairman of the Board of UzbekOziqovaktovHolding (transl. Uzbek Food Holding), comprising about 400 companies, Tohirjon Zhalilov proposed to Kazakh partners to sturdy several projects, including setting up in Uzbekistan’s six provinces of trade and logistics centers for preparation, storage, primary processing, packaging and export of fruits and vegetables, with a preliminary cost of $ 7-12 million each, as well as the construction of modern greenhouse complexes with an initial cost of $ 50 million.

Director of the Export Contracts Department of the State company Food Contract Corporation Nurzhan Mukhamedzhanov expressing his intentions in long-term cooperation, offered to the Uzbek side a partnership in the field of agro-outsourcing.

"Uzbekistan, which has a favorable climate and fertile lands, can increase crops and produce vegetables and fruits instead of wheat and expand its export opportunities. For its part, Kazakhstan guarantees delivery of the necessary quantity of high quality wheat and flour,"he said.

Deputy Chairman of the Board of UzAvtoSanoat Rustam Yusupov said that the Kazakhstan vector is now occupying a special place in the international cooperation of Uzbek automakers.

Chairman of UzbekYengilSanoat (transl. Uzbek Light Industry) Ilkhom Khaidarov underscored that the the development of cross-border trade is one of the priority cooperation areas with Kazakhstan, namely the creation of trading houses, showrooms and logistics centers for the supply of finished products to third countries and setting up of joint ventures.

Presentations were also made by the managing director of KAZAKH INVEST Margarita Kapustianskaya, the chairman of UzPharmSanoat (transl. Uzbek Pharmaceutical Industry) Mirzanozim Dusmuratov, the chairman of the Export Support Fund of the NBU Jahongir Mustafayev and the deputy chairman of KazakhExport board Kuat Zholdybekov.

Outcomes of Forum

A number of documents were signed following the business forum, UzAvtoSanoat signed an agreement with the Allure Group of companies for supply of GM Uzbekistan car components for industrial assembly in Kazakhstan, TekhnoExport signed a memorandum with Elektron to supply electric appliances to Kazakhstan, UzTabirkorExport and the Central Asian Trade House signed a contract for supply of fruits and vegetables to Kazakhstan.

Memorandums of Cooperation were signed by UzPharmSanoat and ChemPharm, UzMetKombinat and Ferrum-Vtor, UzElectroApparat-Electroshield and Alageum Electric. The cooperation agreement was also signed by the territorial administration of the of Tashkent province  branch of CCI and the South Kazakhstan province CCI.

A contract was signed between JSC Uzbekistan Railways and JSC Kazakhstan Railways for supply of 5 thous. tons of rails by the end of 2017 and a long-term contract for supply of 40 thous. tons high-quality rail until 2020, including for high-speed trains.
