The President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Akihiko Tanaka arrived in Uzbekistan on an official visit. This visit highlights the importance of bilateral cooperation between Japan and Uzbekistan within the framework of JICA's initiatives aimed at supporting Uzbekistan’s economic development program.
During his trip, the JICA President visited ZUHRO HANDA LLC in Samarkand, which specializes in drying grapes of Sultani, Kyzylcha, Golden and Kora Maiz varieties. In addition to supplies to the domestic market, the company also markets its goods abroad. Within the framework of the HVCPP project, ZUHRO HANDA LLC was provided US$1 million of funding in 2022. The company has established processing, sorting and packaging operations for products.
During the visit to the enterprise, Akihiko Tanaka talked with the management of the Horticulture Value Chain Promotion Project Uzbekistan. This project, initiated with the support of JICA, is aimed at increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of the country's horticulture sector, introducing innovative technologies, and ensuring the entry of Uzbek products into international markets.
Mr. Tanaka's visit demonstrates JICA's desire to strengthen partnership and develop new initiatives in the field of agriculture, processing and export of products. Uzbekistan, in turn, voices its readiness to continue fruitful cooperation with Japan.
For reference: 1,300 tons of raisins worth US$ 2.5 million were exported to Russia and Turkey in 2024.
Today, ZUHRO HANDA LLC employs 30 permanent and more than 50 seasonal workers.
