Today, the president Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted the president the Asian Development Bank Masato Kanda. At the beginning of the meeting, the ADB Governor congratulated Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the 30th anniversary of strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and ADB, and on Uzbekistan's assumption of the chairmanship of the Bank's Board of Governors in 2025-2026, the presidential press service said.
The parties discussed the ways to further expand full-scale cooperation in the light of the socioeconomic reform program in Uzbekistan.
They commended the high level of bilateral ties, with Uzbekistan being one the Bank's largest partner in the region, and the joint project portfolio exceeding $15 billion.
Reportedly, over $3 billion worth of more projects are being prepared in green energy, transport, digital transformation, education, and other areas, with non-sovereign financing mechanisms being actively implemented.
The parties focused on ongoing preparations for the annual meeting of the ADB Board of Governors in May 2026 in Samarkand.
The president Shavkat Mirziyoyev advocated for the signing of an Enhanced Strategic Partnership Program with ADB at the upcoming event, focusing on infrastructure development, technical and engineering training, training women and youth in new professions, poverty reduction, and the development of the mortgage market and private sector.
The parties emphasized importance of the Bank's active participation in supporting major national and regional initiatives, as well as promoting transport, energy, and trade projects in the Central Asian region.
Reportedly, Masato Kanda highly valued the outcomes of large-scale reform program in the country and expressed his readiness to fully support the implementation of the irreversible reform program in the New Uzbekistan.
