The Senate yesterday approved the specimen and design of the new 100 thousand soum denomination bill, thus raising the highest note from 50,000 soums, the Central Bank said in its telegram channel.
The move is reportedly aimed at bringing more convenience for cash payments, reducing costs and optimizing the banknote series of the national currency .
The issuance of new banknotes will not alter the money supply and should not normally result in its growth, the regulator noted.
The design and issue date of the new banknote will be announced by the Central Bank through the media.
The current highest note is 50 thousand soums, which was brought to circulation in August 2017.
