The Government of Uzbekistan and the French Development Agency (FAD) on March 25 signed two agreements to work together to develop water infrastructure in Navoi, Kitab and Shakhrisabz and inclusive and climate-friendly investment finance in the livestock sector, the FAD said in a statement.

Within six years, a central sewerage system will be built and reconstructed in Karman in Navoi province and Shakhrisabz and Kitab in Kashkadarya province. The FAR loan for this program is 105 million euros.

The agreement on grant financing from the European Union for the livestock development project provides for 7.6 million euros. Earlier, in June 2021, the FAD allocated 100 million euros for the same project.

Together, these funds are used to finance the implementation of a new livestock development model based on the growth potential of small producers that are more flexible and able to adopt climate resilient practices.

The EU grant will cover a technical assistance program for participating financial institutions and other institutions involved in the livestock sector. The EU funds will also be used to fund an investment grant for smallholders to encourage them to access credit.
