Shakhrisabz airport will be closed from 5:00 a.m. on March 13 to 5:00 a.m. on March 25 due to the start of overhaul of the runway, the Uzbekistan Airports said.
Reportedly, due to the operation of the runway since 1983 and in order to ensure the safety of receiving and releasing aircraft, major construction and repair work will be carried out. In particular, it is planned to replace and strengthen the runway surface along the entire length of 1,554 m. Major repairs to the taxiway surface will also be carried out.
Following the tender, the contract for the overhaul was awarded to Fargona Yollardan Muntazam Foydalanis Korkhonasi company.
The Shakhrisabz airport was limited in receiving aircraft — flights were operated twice a week on L-410 aircraft. Following the runway overhaul, the airport will be able to receive modern medium-range ATR-72 aircraft with a flight frequency of up to three times a week.
