A 20 MW wind power plant will be erected in Tashkent province, the provincial governor’s office said.

The future wind farm will be located in Burchmulla village, Bostanlyk district. On July 1, the province governor Zoir Mirzaev signed a resolution allocating 10 hectares of land to the Ministry of Energy for the project.

The $28 million project will be financed through a grant funds and will have a capacity of 20 MW.

The wind farm will annually produce 129.6 million kWh of power, saving of 811,000 cubic meters of gas or 3,150 tons of coal. Previously, the Tashkent provincial administration approved the micro and small hydroelectric power plant projects across 248 sites along rivers and canals. Of these, 83 locations were allocated for energy infrastructure in May, and 66 more were approved in June.

According to the Ministry of Energy, in May, Uzbekistan's solar and wind power plants generated 1.1 billion kWh of power. Renewables accounted for 17% of the country’s total power production that month.
