Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon on Tuesday received the Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister, Rustam Azimov, who arrived in Dushanbe to attend the meeting of the Intergovernmental Trade and Economic Cooperation Commission, the Tajikistan's Presidency website said.

The two sides exchanged views on the state and prospects for boosting cooperation in trade, transport-communications, water, energy, culture, protection of borders and made "constructive proposals to address the obstacles that hinder cooperation in these areas."

The sides also discussed the issues related to the military-political situation in the region and the world, strengthening the fight against terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and other transnational crimes.

Emomali Rahmon called the visit of the Uzbekistan delegation to Tajikistan “an important step forward to further advance and deepen relations”.

"Tajikistan appreciates the initiative of the Uzbek side aimed to restore air flights and railway links between the countries - Emomali Rahmon said, - Our country welcomes measures on cutting of railway tariffs, re-establishment of the electricity import and export, expansion of cooperation in agriculture sector, easement of visa obtaining and resolving of border issues."
