A center for training and retraining of Uzbek and Afghan nurses will open in Termez in the second half of 2021. Germany has also pledged US$ 10 million euros to strengthen the role of women in public administration, the Senate said in a statement.
This was announced at a meeting between the Speaker of the Senate Tanzila Norbaeva and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Uzbekistan Günther Leo Overfield.
“Germany is Uzbekistan’s important partner. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the bilateral trade, economic, political, socio-cultural ties have not weakened. Inter-parliamentary relations are also developing, but the potential is not yet fully tapped,” said Tanzila Norbaeva.
The German Ambassador reportedly noted that the Uzbek government had taken important steps to end forced labor during the cotton harvest and for the protection of human rights in general.
According to the statement, Germany has provided 180 million euros for the development of healthcare and other sectors in the context of the pandemic for two years. In the second half of 2021, it is planned to open a training center in Termez to enhance the skills of nurses from Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. Also as part of the next project $ 10 million euros will be provided to strengthen the role of public administration, including women in public administration.
