Uzbekistan remains the only country in Central Asia that has not been added to the PayPal system, the Minister for Development of Information Technologies and Communications Sherzod Shermatov expressed his opinion on this issue.
Today started the youth forum in Tashkent, where the Minister for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications Sherzod Shermatov made remarks.
Reportedly, he also commented on the situation with PayPal.
“Indeed, the PayPal does not work in Uzbekistan. I think this is because the payment system has virtually no work experience in the country, there have been artificial barriers. This is the reason why PayPal has not added Uzbekistan to its list. Our task with the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance is to include Uzbekistan in this list. I hope that there will be changes in the area, ”the official said.
In June 2018, it was reported that Paypal was about to cooperate with Uzbekistan.
In October 2020, commenting on the situation with PayPal, the Central Bank said that Uzbekistan did not impose restrictions on PayPal's activities, and that the company itself had no intention whatsoever to enter the country. In May 2021, it was also reported that there was no news on this matter.
