On April 11, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the presentation of transport and utilities sector projects, the presidential press service said on Monday.
During the presentation, the Development Strategy until 2035 was discussed, the first stage of the program of which covers 2022-2026.
In particular, Bukhara Airport international passenger terminal project under public-private partnership terms was also presented, where a private partner will be selected by tender. The tender documentation for the selection of a private partner is currently being developed.
The total investment is estimated at $136 million, of which:
- $66.7 million - a property complex not subject to privatization, which will be built at the expense of Uzbekistan Airports and NBU loans;
- 69.3 million dollars - property complexes that will be built at the expense of private investment.
The project is planned to be implemented in 2022-2024.
In March, after reconstruction in Samarkand, a new air terminal complex was opened in the form of an open book. It has 800 people per hour throughput and can host up to 120 flights per week. Unlike other airports, the terminal can be reached by car, and the building is not surrounded by a fence.
The project was implemented under PPP terms with Air Marakanda. At the end of April 2021, the current Minister of Transport, Ilkhom Makhkamov, explaining why a tender was not held to manage the Samarkand airport, said that negotiations on the transfer of the air harbor to the management of Air Marakanda had been underway for a long time. “And switching back to the tender is again a waste of time,” he said.
