On April 15-17, Tashkent will host the 3rd leg of the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup at the Uzbekistan Gymnastics Federation (UGF). The official opening ceremony is scheduled for 18:00, but the performances will start earlier - at 14:30.
This year, athletes from 15 states will participate: Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Colombia, Great Britain, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, New Zealand, Slovenia, the USA and Uzbekistan.
For the first time in many years, gymnasts from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine will be absent from the tournament. In early March, the International Gymnastics Federation (IGF) announced the suspension of the national teams of Russia and Belarus from the competition. Initially, the IGF FI banned athletes from both countries from competing under the national flag and anthem, but in the end decided that starting from March 7, they would not be allowed to start even in a neutral status.
The UGF reported that the 2022 sports season is filled with excitement for all gymnasts. This is due to a number of factors. Firstly, this Olympic cycle is much shorter, which means that there is little time to prepare for qualifiers. This autumn, the licensed world championship starts, where the first quotas for Paris 2024 Olympics will be on stake.
