Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov yesterday met with the Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Alfonso Dastis in Madrid, the ministry said.
The counterparts reportedly discussed bilateral ties, in particular, promising areas for deepening cooperation in the political, trade, economic, investment, cultural, humanitarian and other fields.
The ministers reviewed the ties in the Uzbekistan-EU and Central Asia-EU formats, exchanged views on topical international issues, noting that the meeting of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and King Philip VI of Spain on 9 June 2017 in Astana was an important milestone in the Uzbek-Spanish ties.
Minister Kamilov spoke about the main points of the opening remarks by Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 10 November in Samarkand at the opening of the international conference "Central Asia: Shared Past and Common Future, Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Mutual Prosperity" and briefed on the outcomes of the forum.
The two ministers confirmed readiness to provide diplomatic support to establish and expand direct contacts between the businesses of Uzbekistan and Spain, as the growth of two-way trade, setting up joint production and other capacities are equally beneficial to both sides.
The sides also discussed the development of tourism exchanges.
After the talks, the ministers signed the Agreement between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kingdom of Spain on Air Links and the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the Kingdom of Spain on International Automobile Transportation.
