Informal consultations of leaders of the Central Asian countries could be held in March 2018 - the day of the spring equinox, Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov said, vlast.kz reported.

"We will collaborate with all our neighbors to realize the initiative to hold informal consultations of the Central Asian leaders. And we believe that the spring holiday of Nauryz could be a good occasion for holding the first Central Asian leaders’ meeting after a long pause under the chairmanship of our leader," Abdrakhmanov said, noting that relations between the countries of Central Asia had always been friendly and fraternal.

The initiative to hold informal meetings of the leaders of Central Asian countries has been recently proposed by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

"The serious problems in Central Asia can only be resolved through joint efforts on the basis of shared responsibility," the Uzbek president said at the recent international security conference in Samarkand.

According to Mirziyoyev, this could be facilitated through holding regular consultative meetings between the heads of state.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev however stressed that it was not about creating a new international organization or some kind of integration structure, but a platform which would be "aimed solely at the time-check on key issues”.
