The Central Criminal Court of Iraq on Thursday sentenced 8 foreign women, including one from Uzbekistan, to life imprisonment for joining the ISIL group, the latest in a series of heavy verdicts against foreign women linked to the jihadists.
The other three women are from Turkey, three from Azerbaijan and one from Syria, said the Supreme Judicial Council official Abdel Sattar Beyrakdar. The judge clarified that the verdict was passed in accordance with article 2 of the Anti-Terrorism Law.
In late April, the Iraqi court sentenced 19 Russian women and 10 women from Azerbaijan and Tajikistan to life imprisonment for the same charge with the IG. Earlier in April, 7 foreign women were sentenced to life behind bars.
