The Uzbek Foreign Minister, Abdulaziz Kamilov on January 24 in Kabul met with the Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Abdullah Abdullah, a statement of the Foreign Ministry said.
The sides discussed priority areas for further advancing of cooperation in trade, economic, transport-communications and investment areas.
It was noted at the meeting that currently Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have the sufficient capacity to increase the mutual trade turnover, which in January-October 2016 reached 429 million US dollars. In this regard, the sides attach great importance to the launch of UzSanoatEksport (transl. Uz Industry Export) trade house in Afghanistan.
Abdullah Abdullah thanked the Uzbek side for the speedy construction and commissioning of Hairatan to Mazar-i-Sharif railway, the only line in Afghanistan and assistance in the training of highly qualified technical staff.
At the meeting were also discussed the prospects for the implementation of joint energy and infrastructure projects and overall socio-economic development of Afghanistan.
