100 wounded Palestinian women and children, along with their companions, were temporarily evacuated from Rafah to Uzbekistan, Uzbek Ambassador to Egypt Mansurbek Kilichev told the Egyptian news publication Ahram.
The evacuation operation was reportedly carried out at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in cooperation with the health ministries of the two countries.
According to Kilichev, the evacuated Palestinians will remain in Uzbekistan until they are able to return to their homeland. They will be placed in rehabilitation centers and hospitals for treatment and recovery.
The Uzbek government will provide all the necessary conditions for their safe stay in the country, including accommodation, food, access to education for children and other necessary resources, the ambassador said.
Mansurbek Kilichev reminded that in November, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, speaking at the emergency Arab-Islamic summit on the Palestine issue, emphasized the importance of ending military operations in the Palestinian territories and ensuring safe humanitarian corridors. Shavkat Mirziyoyev also reiterated Tashkent's readiness to accept wounded Palestinian women and children for their treatment and rehabilitation.
In November last year, the president signed a decree on the allocation of $1.5 million to the United Nations Relief Agency for the Near East (UNRWA) to help Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip.
