Mongolia has started delivering live sheep to Uzbekistan, local media reported on Wednesday, citing data from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia.

Following the state visit of the Mongolian president to Uzbekistan, the Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia confirmed the Agreement on the Export of Live Sheep from Mongolia to Uzbekistan during his participation in the High-Level International Forum on Food Security and Sustainable Development Goals in Landlocked Developing Countries in Uzbekistan.

The Agreement took effect on December 21, 2024, and 1,440 live sheep were transported from Mongolia to Uzbekistan on two flights.

In 2023 the two-way trade between Mongolia and Uzbekistan stood at $10 million. Although the range of goods is limited, it has been steadily growing since the onset of the pandemic, as noted by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry.

Mongolia exported processed sheep and lamb skins, mutton and goat offal, and frozen mutton, beef and goat meat worth US$4.6 million, while importing grapes, fruits, food products, refrigeration and freezing equipment and trucks worth US$5.4 million from Uzbekistan.
