A delegation led by the Deputy Foreign Minister Furqat Siddiqov, who landed in Tehran on March 7 for bilateral talks, today met with Chairman of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Gholamhossein Shafei, Dunyo said.
Furqat Siddiqov reportedly noted at the event that the development of cooperation with Iran is one of the priorities of Uzbekistan's foreign economic policy, adding that the current volume of two-way trade is below the existing capabilities of the two countries.
Uzbekistan is also interested in organizing specialized exhibitions with Iran in the provinces of the two countries, expanding cooperation between national and regional chambers of commerce and industry, and exchanging delegations.
Gholamhossein Shafei underscored that the Iran Chamber of Commerce and Industry will provide all possible assistance in holding the exhibition "Made in Uzbekistan" in Iran.
During the talks, the parties also expressed interest in holding the first meeting of the Joint Trade Committee set up by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and Iran in the near future. The new entity is expected to play an important role in boosting mutual trade.
