On January 16, the Board of the Central Bank decided to keep the basic rate at 16% per annum, the regulator said in a statement.
“This decision was prompted by the need to build confidence in the declining inflation trend, as well as by some persisting uncertainties due to adjustment in regulated prices,” the Central Bank explained.
At the same time, there is a possibility of decreasing the basic rate at the next meetings, the regulator noted.
The CB introduced the basic rate instead of the refinancing rate and set the interest rate corridor for monetary operations from January 1, 2020.
