On April 30, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke about the problems and corruption in the banking sector at a meeting on the development of industry in the provinces.

“There is an ongoing economic crisis in the world. It's not easy for everyone. We have our own path. We have all possibilities to honestly provide the people with finances and achieve results,” he said.

According to the president, governors and mayors will also be responsible for the development of local industry - an area where "there are a lot of jobs, benefit and meeting the needs of people."

“Once a week, the governors will personally talk with the heads of banks and tax authorities. You must assess the bank [manager] and tax officer of each district by looking them in the eye, no matter who they are. Currently taxes and banks are a making obstacles to our economy. Everyone must draw conclusions. The people will help make revenues, but first we need to help the people to stand on their feet,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized.

The President warned: "If we do not root out corruption, reforms will not work."

“We have provided hell lot of money to support banks?! Could the banks withstand until today? They would be bankrupt. There are many people who want to buy our banks from abroad, but I am not allowing them to do so. I say that we should learn to serve our people ourselves so that the revenues stay with us. I am telling our compatriots to learn this,” he said.

As reported at the end of March, the Hungarian OTP Bank could buy stake in the Ipoteka Bank.
