The Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan and UNDP launched a joint project “Empowering Women to Participate in Public Administration and Enhance Their Activity in Social and Economic Life”.

The new initiative is aimed at increasing the social and political activity of women and strengthening their role in the governance of the state and society.

A joint project on women’s empowerment began in November 2017 and will continue until October 2019.

The key areas of the Joint Project will be:

  • Support, pilot and introduce innovations to empower women to ensure women’s broad participation in social and economic life.
  • Assistance in the preparation of regulations and analytical documents on the empowerment of women in accordance with international human rights treaties.
  • Increase the institutional capacity of the regional offices of the Women’s Committee, the State Statistics Committee, the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations to create a disaggregated by gender statistics and the advancement of women’s rights and opportunities.

As part of the implementation of these areas, it is planned to develop models and tools for promoting women in the public service, to increase women’s participation in the public and political life of the country, to help create a professional reserve for women professionals for ministries, departments and other state organizations, draft regulatory and legal documents on the empowerment of women.

The project also envisages development of training programs and training for women civil servants and women managers along with the Academy of Public Administration, the organization of competitions and training seminars for girls and women in mathematics, physics, programming, engineering, chemistry, biology, and other natural sciences.

It is important that the project will support startups, social partnership initiatives for the development of education and entrepreneurship among women, the provision of mini-grants for regional universities, scientific laboratories to create conditions for the active involvement of girls and women in technical specialties.
