Under Uzbekistan’s traffic laws, drivers and front-seat passengers in vehicles equipped with seat belts are strictly required to buckle up before setting off. However, the legislation provides specific exemptions for certain categories of individuals.
According to the law, the following individuals are legally permitted to ride without wearing a seat belt:
- Children under the age of 12 riding in the rear seats of a vehicle.
- Driving instructors overseeing practical training sessions while a student is operating a motor vehicle or urban electric transport.
- Pregnant women, as well as patients who cannot wear a seat belt due to underlying health conditions.
- Drivers and passengers of emergency service vehicles while on duty, provided the vehicle is equipped with flashing blue, red, or combined lights and features specialized official paint schemes and markings.
In all other circumstances, wearing a seat belt remains mandatory for both the driver and front-seat passengers. This safety regulation is designed to mitigate injuries and lower the risk of fatalities in the event of traffic accidents.
