President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has extended his congratulations to press and mass media workers on their professional holiday, marked on June 27.
He noted that this year's celebration coincides with two historic milestones: the 120th anniversary of the founding of the newspaper Taraqqiy (Progress) by the Jadids, and the centennial of the country's first experimental radio broadcast.
"We view free, responsible, and genuinely people-oriented journalism as an indispensable condition for the development of both society and the state," the president's congratulatory message read.
The president announced new measures designed to "expand opportunities" for media personnel. These initiatives include strengthening the protection of their rights and interests, improving professional training, supporting health and wellness, and upgrading living conditions.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed the urgent need to refine the operations of the Journalists' Union of Uzbekistan, elevating its status and integration into national reforms. He emphasized that the organization must focus more closely on defending journalists' rights, providing legal and tech-related support, and fostering professional solidarity.
President Mirziyoyev also pointed to the rise of deepfake technology alongside a dramatic increase in information flows, underscoring the critical need to improve data verification and reliability. To tackle this, he noted that the country has established an educational system that currently trains 10,000 young individuals.
"As the leader of this country, I am always ready to provide the necessary aid and backing to our national media outlets. They must continue to serve as a sturdy bridge between the government and the public, while simultaneously becoming a powerful spiritual force that further unites our people around our shared national interests," he stated.
