A 32-billion-soum project is underway in the Urta Chirchik district of the Tashkent province to revitalize a 9-kilometer stretch of the Karasuv canal banks, the presidential press service reported.
On July 22, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the area to inspect the progress made along the waterfront.
Construction kicked off last year and is split into two phases. The first phase successfully revitalized a 1.6-kilometer section running between the Tinchlik and Karasuv neighborhoods. This area now features modern pedestrian walkways, a fountain, outdoor workout zones, a water park, and an under-bridge pedestrian tunnel. Decorative trees and comfortable seating have been installed, alongside newly opened dining and service outlets.
The upcoming phase will introduce entertainment, leisure, and gastronomic streets along the sections cutting through the Karasuv, Rovatak, and Fayzobod neighborhoods. The number of retail and service venues will expand to six, generating 150 new jobs.
The president's press service noted that waterfront revitalization is being approached not just as a way to build recreational spaces, but as a strategic opportunity to boost local commerce, services, and employment.
