On January 25 the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a Decree "On perpetuation of the memory of the First President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov."
According to the document, every year on January 30 will be celebrated the birthday of the first President Islam Karimov, and September 2 will be the Memorial Day of the First President.
This decision was made "on the basis of sincere wishes, the will of our fellow citizens, in view of the great historical achievements of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Hero of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov in gaining national independence, ensuring the country's development and prosperity" and is aimed at perpetuating his blessed memory.
