The MPs of the Legislative Chamber at a session on May 18 conceptually passed in the first reading the Amendments to the Tax Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the lower house reported.

The Amendments provide for relief from payment of fees for purchase and (or) temporary import of electric vehicles into Uzbekistan.

Currently the fee for purchase and (or) temporary import of cars into Uzbekistan is paid by the owners when they are registered under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. For new cars (not used), with the exception of domestic production, the fee is 3% of the purchase price, for used cars the rate differs.

At the same time, Uzbekistan intends to master the production of electric vehicles. Uzautosanoat announced plans to produce such vehicles by 2025 in March. In April, it was reported that the launch of the assembly of electric vehicles is expected in Fergana small industrial zone in November 2021. The production capacity will be 30 thousand vehicles per year.

While, at the regular meeting of the CIS Industrial Policy Council, held on May 14, Uzbekistan announced it was ready to cooperate in the development of electric vehicle production in the CIS.
