Phase II of the reconstruction of the Tashkent airport international terminal (Tashkent-2) started in July. It is expected to end at the end of next year, representatives of Uzbekistan Airports told reporters during a press trip on Friday.

The first stage of reconstruction was completed in September last year - the right side of the departure hall was repaired, the runway-1 was overhauled, for the convenience of departing many years later, a flyover leading to the second floor, equipped with a car registration system, was reopened.

As a result of the reconstruction, the airport’s throughput capacity will double - from 1,200 to 2,400 passengers per hour, said the general director of the contractor company Uzsanoatsovuqmontaj Ruslan Kuliyev.

The reconstruction includes an increase in the territory of the terminal due to new construction, the expansion of the check-in and waiting rooms, the baggage claim area and the border control sector. The total area will increase from 44 thousand to 74.3 thousand sq.m.

It is planned to expand the Duty Free, public catering, open a "town of artisans" with counters for souvenirs and the first capsule hotel on the territory of the airport with an area of ​​150 square meters. The terminal will have sales points for SIM-cards and mobile devices, including IMEI register points.

The second floor of the departure terminal, where construction work is currently underway, will be ready by September 1, Ruslan Kuliev assured. Then it is planned to build a new building and demolish the catering area. Instead, there will be another arrival hall with four baggage carousels. All parts will be combined into a single large terminal.

To date, work has already been carried out to transfer the Business Lounge to the CIP-hall of the old building.

50 new check-in desks will be installed in the passenger check-in area. There will be more seats in the waiting area. 5 new baggage handling carousels will be installed, Ruslan Kuliev said.
