Military drill organized by the US Central Command commenced in Tajikistan on August 10, the US Embassy in Tajikistan said. U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan John Mark Pommersheim welcomed the participants in the Regional Cooperation 2022 military exercise, which will run through August 20.
John Mark Pommersheim noted that these drills are the largest US military exercises involving the countries of Central and South Asia.
“This drill provides a unique opportunity to strengthen relationships with our partners in the region,” he said.
The annual drill, according to the embassy, is aimed at strengthening multinational operations to ensure stability, combat terrorism, and develop cooperation and joint combined capabilities among states.
According to the embassy, participants from the United States, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and Mongolia will attend the six-day command post exercise.
Tajikistan and the US will also host a five-day bilateral component of the field drill at the Fakhrabad Training Center.
