The water resources ministries of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have reached an agreement on automation of hydrometers along the Syrdarya river, the Kazinform said.

"In general, we look forward to automating all of the main hydrometers and ensure full transparency of water metering. We are also promoting this matter in negotiations with our Kyrgyz and Tajik colleagues," said the Kazakh Deputy Water Resources Minister Nurlan Aldamzharov.

Earlier, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan identified 10 sites in the Syrdarya basin where automated water metering units will be installed. They are divided equally between the countries.

Reportedly, the parties are currently negotiating with international financial organizations. The project’s FS is being developed by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
