One of Tashkent’s symbols - the monument to the blacksmith Shaakhmed Shamakhmudov's family, who adopted 15 children during the WWII has returned to downtown Tashkent, where it truly belongs.
On May 1, 2017 the monument was transported from the city outskirts to the Park of Amity (former Babur Park). At the moment a pedestal is being prepared next to the Peace Bell in the park for installation of the sculptural composition.
The monument was created in 1982 and installed at the Peoples' Amity Square, however in 2008, the composition was moved to the outskirts of the city.
A source in the Main Office for the Protection and Use of Cultural Heritage Objects at the Ministry of Culture said that loads of requests have been filed to the Presidential Virtual Reception to return the monument to the city center.
Shaakhmed Shamakhmudov and his wife Bahri during the WWII in 1941-45 adopted 15 children of different nationalities, who lost their parents and were evacuated to Tashkent.
