President Shavkat Mirziyoyev today hosted the CEO of the Azerbaijani company SOCAR, Rovshan Najaf, along with British Petroleum (BP) executives Ariel Flores and Giovanni Cristofoli. The executives traveled to Uzbekistan to attend the Uzbekistan Energy Week – 2026 forum, the presidential press service said.
Reportedly, the meeting focused on expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with these top-tier corporations, both of which are prominent global leaders in the energy, oil, and gas sectors.
The parties expressed satisfaction with the ongoing, successful cooperation in the energy arena. SOCAR is already a vital partner for Uzbekistan in developing hydrocarbon fields across the Ustyurt Plateau. Building on this partnership, a decision has been reached to open a dedicated SOCAR representative office in Uzbekistan.
President Mirziyoyev also highly commended the entry of the British company BP into this large-scale project.
The discussion emphasized the importance of advancing joint ventures across the oil and gas value chain—encompassing geological exploration, extraction, and deep refining of hydrocarbons—as well as securing long-term supplies of crude oil and petroleum products, and establishing specialized workforce training programs.
Furthermore, Rovshan Najaf, who concurrently serves as the President of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan, extended his gratitude to the Uzbek leader for supporting joint preparations for the upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan in 2027.
