The Liberal Democratic Party has taken the initiative to ease the restrictions on the use of the national flag. Party leader Aktam Khaitov said that on November 18, the Uzbek Flag Day, the expanded meeting of the party decide to form a working group to develop relevant amendments to the legislation.

Noting that the flag is a symbol of Uzbekistan’s sovereignty and serves to unite the people of the country in their commitment to universal values, aspirations towards peace and building a brighter future, Aktam Khaitov emphasized that “having the flag nearby in daily life plays an important role in uniting all the people living in our country.

He added that at meetings of MPs with voters, citizens openly speak about the need to ease restrictions on the use of the flag, bring the law on the national flag in line with the international standards and liberalize the related regulations.

MP from the UzLiDeP Rasul Kusherbaev specified that the party had proposed to abolish the current restrictions on the use of the flag in and allow its free use by citizens.

“In simple terms, these changes will also allow citizens, showing due respect for our flag, to install it in their homes and freely use it in their workplaces,” the deputy wrote.

In addition, he added, it was planned to review the current liability measures related to the use of the flag.

Now the flag of Uzbekistan is allowed to be used only on the buildings of government bodies and diplomatic missions, in the offices of the president and other officials, in military units, at border checkpoints, at sports arenas and during holidays and celebrations, as well as on the main streets on holidays.

It is now forbidden to add elements of the flag in legal details of documents or ads of non-governmental organizations. Symbols of NGOs cannot be similar to the flag. Symbols representing the image of the flag also cannot be used for commercial purposes to advertise goods, works or services.
