The Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov held a meeting with the Minister of the Environment of Japan Akihiro Nishimura as part of his visit to Tokyo on December 23, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry reported.
The parties welcomed the signing last October in Tashkent of a memorandum of cooperation on a joint lending mechanism that provides for the attraction of Japanese investment in order to introduce "green" technologies and accelerate the process of decarbonization in Uzbekistan.
“Japan is ready to continue to assist Uzbekistan in overcoming the consequences of the drying up of the Aral Sea, including through participation in the activities of the Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Human Security in the Aral Sea Zone,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
As a result of the meeting, a memorandum was signed between the State Committee of Uzbekistan for Ecology and Environmental Protection and the Ministry of the Environment of Japan. The document is aimed at expanding cooperation between the environmental authorities of the two countries to address and respond to environmental challenges at the national, regional and global levels.
Also, Vladimir Norov held talks with the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, Keiko Nagaoka.
During the meeting, they discussed issues of intensifying bilateral cooperation in the field of education, training and advanced training of personnel in specialties in demand for the Uzbek economy, and the implementation of joint cultural and humanitarian events.
Agreements were reached to start working on the issue of opening a professional educational institution in Uzbekistan with the involvement of Japanese technologies and specialists, deepening cooperation in the field of higher education by concluding an intergovernmental agreement on the preparation of masters in technical specialties, as well as organizing trainings and internships for teachers and researchers.
