Officials of the Afghan Railways visited Uzbekistan on December 26-30, in Termez, and met with their Uzbek counterparts to discuss the ways to further advance bilateral cooperation.

According to the Uzbekistan Railways, the parties discussed the development of the activities of the Hairatan station, as well as the implementation of the Termez - Mazar-i-Sharif - Kabul - Peshawar project.

The parties pointed to the importance of increasing the number of local specialists who will work in the Afghan railway system.

Based on the experience of the Hairatan railway station, an “action plan” was agreed, according to which the parties will more actively involve Afghan specialists in repair work.

In addition, the parties agreed that Sogdiana-Trans (a subsidiary of Uzbekistan Temir Yullari) will continue to carry out international cargo transportation.

Earlier, the media reported that as a result of negotiations with Uzbekistan Railways, an agreement was entered into on the procedure and calendar for the transfer of duties to the Afghan authorities for the maintenance and management of the Hairaton-Mazar-i-Sharif section.
