On Friday in Bishkek, the Ministers of Energy of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan signed a roadmap for the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1 on the Naryn River in Kyrgyzstan, which will become the largest hydroelectric power plant in the region. This was reported by the ministries of energy of the three countries.
As part of the roadmap signed by the Ministers of Energy of Uzbekistan Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov, of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibraev and of Kazakhstan Bolat Akchulakov, the parties agreed on the main terms and conditions for the project and outlined further steps for the timely commissioning of the power plant.
At the meeting, the parties emphasized that the implementation of the project should be fair and beneficial for all participating countries.
The expected completion date of Kambarata-1 HPP will be set after a feasibility study is elaborated. However, Taalaibek Ibraev noted, preparations for the construction of the hydroelectric power plant have already begun: roads, bridges, power lines, and construction sites are being built.
The statement of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan states that Kambarata-1 would play an important role in providing electricity and water to all three countries.
The capacity of the future HPP will be 1,860 MW. The HPP reservoir will have a volume of 5.4 billion cubic meters. The plant will annually produce an average of 5.6 billion kWh of electricity.
In March 2021, during the visit of the President of Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan, the countries signed an agreement on the joint preparation of the project "Construction of Kambarata Hydroelectric Power Plant-1" and a MoM on mutual electricity supply.
In September 2022, at the talks as part framework of the SCO Samarkand Summit, the presidents of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan spoke about the importance of starting the construction of the Kambarata-1 HPP as soon as possible.
