$1 billion will be allocated for introduction of renewable energy sources in Tashkent, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at a government meeting on Wednesday, his spokesman Sherzod Asadov said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the demand for electricity and natural gas was constantly growing in the city. According to him, calculations have been made to address these issued. First of all, it is planned to tap the potential of renewable energy.

In particular, he proposed to install solar panels with a total capacity of 2,000 MW in the city. They can cover the roofs of multi-storey buildings, social facilities, buildings of government agencies and private enterprises, industrial zones, parking lots and large water structures.

Thanks to this, according to calculations, 1.08 billion kWh of energyc ould be generated in 2023 which will cover the demand by 4 times.

According to the info announced at the meeting, 400 million kWh of energy is planned to be generated by installing solar panels in industrial zones and large enterprises, and 75 million kWh - at social facilities and government buildings.

It is planned to build a large solar power plant with a capacity of 500 MW in the Yukorichirchik district of the Tashkent province.

It is planned to reduce electricity losses by 1% and increase energy efficiency by 3% at the capital's manufacturing enterprises.

Reportedly, it is planned to completely renovate the heating system In 1817 multi-storey residential buildings.

Due to the renovation of 300 km of main heating networks, heat losses are expected to be reduced by 5%.

Guaranteed purchase of power by the state

Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that the state would guarantee the purchase of generated electricity by enterprises (from this year) and the population (from next year).

He emphasized the importance of abandoning the state monopoly in electricity production and creating a competitive environment.

The population will offered 1,000 soums for each kW of power received from solar panels and given to the state as surplus (the current rate is 295 soums).

Monthly calculations will be made, and the money will be transferred to the homeowner on his/her bank card, the president underscored.
