The Uzbekistan Boxing Federation has issued its stance due to the boycotting by some countries of the Boxing World Championship in Tashkent in May.
“The Boxing World Championship, which is held once in two years, is organized by the International Boxing Association (IBA). Uzbekistan is not entitled to determine which countries to admit or not to admit to the competition. Uzbekistan is the host of the tournament and only deals with organizational issues,” the statement said.
“Registration of the participating countries of the championship, national teams, athletes and coaches, as well as judges is performed by the IBA. When Uzbekistan was awarded the right to host the World Cup, there were no current restrictions on the participation of some teams or athletes in international tournaments.”
“Uzbekistan is a state that adheres to international sports standards and supports the principle that sport is out of politics,” the Boxing Federation said.
As reported earlier, the United States, the Czech Republic, Ireland and Sweden announced it would boycott of World Cup in India and Uzbekistan. The UK will not participate in the Women's World Cup in New Delhi. This decision was made due to the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to the tournament under the flags of their countries.
Earlier, the International Boxing Association (IBA) has opened disciplinary proceedings against several countries over their planned boycott of amateur world championships due to the inclusion of Russian and Belarusian boxers.
The President of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) is the Russian Umar Kremlev.
