On March 3, the Senate approved the candidacy of Furqat Sidiqov for the post of Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United States.
Furqat Sidiqov, 51, has served as First Deputy Foreign Minister since November 2022. Previously, since May 2020, he served as Deputy Foreign Minister.
He graduated from Tashkent State Technical University in 1993. He worked as a senior specialist at JV UzDaewoo Electronics (1993-1995), employee, senior researcher, lead researcher at the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President (1995-2002, 2007-2011).
He also served as attaché at the Embassy of Uzbekistan to the United States (2002-2007), First Secretary of this embassy (2011-2015), Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan (2015-2020).
Since 2017, the Uzbek diplomatic mission in the United States has been headed by Javlon Vakhabov. It is expected that now he can be appointed First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, this information was confirmed by two independent sources.
