First sweet cherry has ripened on April 10 in one of the households of Yangarik village of Termez district of Surkhandarya province, the Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement.
“This year, thanks to the warm spring and the tireless work of our enterprising farmers, some fruits and vegetables ripened earlier than usual,” the report says.
According to the owner of the house, the tree was grafted two years ago.
“The first sweet cherries, which ripened much earlier than usual, indicate that our farmers are working effectively for a noble goal - to deliver a new crop to our fellow countrymen as soon as possible. It also gives confidence that the year will be fertile, and gardens and fields will have a bountiful harvest,” the Ministry of Agriculture said.
In 2022, the cherry harvest in Uzbekistan dropped sharply due to prolonged rains during the flowering of cherry orchards, which also negatively affected exports.
Technically, Uzbekistan is the fifth largest exporter of cherries in the world, but Hong Kong is in second place, which is a re-exporter. Therefore, among net exporters, Uzbekistan is the fourth largest exporter of cherries in the world.
