On April 15, Samarkand hosted a meeting of the organizing committee to prepare for the 32nd annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
The annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the EBRD, whose shareholders are 71 countries, as well as the European Union and the European Investment Bank, will take place on May 16-18 this year in Samarkand.
It is expected that the event will be attended by about 2,000 delegates of foreign governments, heads of transnational corporations, heads of international financial institutions and banks, experts in the field of economics, investment, finance and technology, representatives of foreign media.
During the meeting, the parties discussed current trends in the global economy, as well as institutional issues related to the operational and financial activities of the bank. The Summit will feature a Business forum with the participation of delegates of foreign companies.
The chairman of the organizing committee, the chief of the presidential administration Sardor Umurzakov noted that the choice of the country as a venue for this event testifies to the key importance of Uzbekistan for the EBRD as a partner country, the dynamic development of multifaceted cooperation with the bank, as well as the recognition by the EBRD shareholders of the success of Uzbekistan in implementing socio-economic reforms.
They emphasized importance of holding a high-level event in the context of further strengthening the image of Uzbekistan in the international business community, increasing the investment attractiveness of the country and deepening interaction with international financial institutions and organizations.
During the meeting, the current progress of preparation was reviewed, the existing issues regarding the organization of the event were developed, the agenda of the meeting was substantively discussed, and the algorithms for cooperation between responsible ministries and departments were determined. As a result of the discussion, the officials were also given targeted instructions on the formation of the business program of the meeting, the preparation of urban infrastructure, the security of representatives of foreign delegations, as well as the organization of official and informal events.
