The capacity of the Gazli underground gas storage facility (UGS) is planned to be doubled by 2025. Muhammad Saidazimov, the chief engineer of the Gazli Gas Storage joint venture, announced this to the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.
According to him, at the phase I of the project - from 2020 to the end of 2025 - due to field exploration, it is planned to double the volume of gas storage in the Gazli UGS facility - from 3 to 6 billion cubic meters.
At the second stage, the capacity will be increased to 10 BCM by finalizing and expanding the gas storage. The total cost of the project is estimated at 850 million US dollars.
Muhammad Saidazimov said that the construction of a booster compressor station (6A) has already been completed, which will make it possible to cover seasonal fluctuations in gas consumption in the autumn-winter period. While, 76 new wells were drilled at the field, bringing the total number to 352.
According to the channel, the cost of the first phase is estimated at $558 million, of which almost $270 million is foreign direct investment. It is expected that by 2025 tax payments to the budget will reach 60 billion soums per year with an income of 580 billion soums. The production capacity of the project will vary in the region of 28-30 million cubic meters of gas per day.
