All zebra crosswalks across roads with two or more lanes in each direction will be equipped with traffic lights controlled by a button. This is provided for by the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy, approved by Shavkat Mirziyoyev by his Sep. 11 decree.
The presidential decree on the implementation of this strategy in 2023 states that from January 1, 2024, on all new two or more lane roads being built in populated areas, the installation of traffic lights at pedestrian crossings shall become mandatory.
The decree also provides for a reduction by at least 50% in the number of road accidents with serious consequences by 2030.
