In the framework of the XV Tashkent International Film Festival “Pearl of the Silk Road”, Romania will be represented by two masterpieces, namely the film “The Father Who Moves Mountains” directed by Daniel Sandu (release year 2021) and the film “Mikado” directed by Emanuel Parvu (release year 2021).
The story of “The Father Who Moves Mountains” takes place in the beautiful mountains of Romania. Mircea is a retired intelligence officer and he discovers that his son has disappeared while hiking in the mountains. After several days of searching, Mircea assembles his own rescue team, which leads to a clash with the local police. He remains determined to find his son. The film is starring Adrian Titieni, Elena Purea and Judith State. The film will be shown in Tashkent on September 30 at 15:00 at “Anhor Cinema” (28 Shaykhontokhur st.).
The film “Mikado” will be presented at the European Film Festival as part of the Tashkent International Film Festival. The film received an award at the Bucharest International Film Festival (2022) and seven nominations at other prestigious international festivals such as the San Sebastian International Film Festival (Spain). The screening of the film “Mikado” will take place in Tashkent on October 3 at 10:05 in the Yulduz cinema (Mirabad St., 25) and in the city of Bukhara on October 4, 2023 at 16:30 at cinema “Bukhara” (Muhammad Iqbal St., 1) .
The films “The Father Who Moves Mountains” and “Mikado” will be shown in Romanian with subtitles in Uzbek and admission will be free.
In 2022, “The Days of Romanian Cinema” were organized as part of the XIV Tashkent International Film Festival “Pearl of the Silk Road”. In Tashkent were shown the film “Next to Me” (directed by Tedi Necula) and the historical drama “The Dacians” (directed by Sergiu Nicolaescu). “The Days of Romanian Cinema” remain in memory as a great event in the cooperation between Romania and the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of culture.
According to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr. Daniel Cristian Ciobanu, the Tashkent International Film Festival “Pearl of the Silk Road,” revived on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, is a very important event. The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the festival organizers for the excellent cooperation in preparing Romania's participation in the event. Regarding the film “The Father Who Moves Mountains”, the Ambassador noted that in Uzbekistan, like in Romania, the mountains are very beautiful. The diplomat climbed several mountains in Uzbekistan, such as Big Chimgan (3309m), Hazrat Sultan (4083m) and the Pulatkhan plateau (2823m), where in 2021, 2022 and 2023 he recorded his videos with congratulations to the Uzbek people on the Independence Day of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
